Run With God or Walk With God
2 Corinthians Chapter 2: 5-7 For we walk by faith and not by sight.
Micah Chapter 6 verse 8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Running can be about time and completion. Running can be about setting a pace and freeing your mind and strengthening your body. Running can be about busying yourself by running here and there and never slowing down to rest. Just like mercy and justice take time, so does humility.
Walking on the other hand can be void of requisite competition or completion time. Walking can be leisurely and can give you time to stop and smell the roses. Walking here and there is closer to the pendulum of resting than running is. While walking you might just hear the voice of direction and the voice of goodness.
As a child I loved to run. I would run ahead of my mother into the store. I burst with excitement taking in all the things around me. But there was a time when I ran ahead and looked back for my mother only to find that she was nowhere in sight. I continued running around trying to find her. I looked all throughout the store when finally a voice came over the loud speaker. The voice called my name and told me to come up front. My mother was there waiting. She was disappointed. She gathered me up; we walked to the car and we went home.
Sometimes John 1 Chapter 2 verse 16 takes over our lives and we forget to walk.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
The very body we use to walk or to run easily falls prey to flesh (the flesh's desires), its lust (what we see with the eyes), and the pride of life (wanting what we want when we want it). We look at the things in the world as if they are not going to be here forever and we have to have them now. Some things we just are not prepared for and we are called to wait or abstain.
Running in any direction thinking that what is over here or over there will satisfy us can lead to big heart aches. Seek ye first the kingdom of God (walk) and all these things will be added. If we slow down and witness that the majesty of God is in time and takes time, we might well walk right into the WAY and find Jesus the savior of our souls.
I pray that today you have a personal encounter with Jesus. I pray He meets you as you move along your way. May He transform you in the twinkling of an eye as you walk humbly with justice and mercy toward all God's creation.
